Sounds like writing the badges as people come is easier/better alright. 
I don't think there's any reason to register for LAID, but it would be
handy to know who's coming on the day.

If you know anyone who might be interested in coming to see the newbie
section of the event make sure to remind them that it's free and (for
the parents) has a high educational value!
I've invited my uncle after I showed him how easy it is to delete
command.com on his brand new Win98 machine ;)
