Once person on the list has, but keeps forgetting to bring in the 
config :-)

However, several people, including myself, have got it working using
wvdial, which is a command-line ppp manager. Just config it with your
phone number, username and password (nolimits, nolimits respectively)
and it connects reliably under rh6.0, at any rate.
