To boot a RH system from diskette or CD-ROM using a root filesystem
on disk, the following should be typed at the "boot:" prompt :
linux root=/dev/hdXN initrd=
The "hdXN" should have X replaced with a,b,c,d as appropriate
and N replaced with 1,2,3, ... as apropriate.
The "initrd=" string stops the bootloader/kernel from using the
installation root filesystem on the diskette or CDROM.
