Check the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-lo. On my RH6 box
it looks like this:
DEVICE=lo
IPADDR=127.0.0.1
NETMASK=255.0.0.0
NETWORK=127.0.0.0
BROADCAST=127.255.255.255
ONBOOT=yes
Note that I've seem one case of a Redhat machine where this file got
a bit corrupted. I don't know what caused that, but I'd guess that
it was linuxconf.
