[ILUG] smp/scsi problem

[ILUG] smp/scsi problem

I've been having a problem with the 2.2 series kernels, which
only seem to occur when running in SMP mode. Basically, the kernel
boots, starts correctly, gets to the Adaptec 2940, and fails to
find any devices under it, getting a couple of errors on screen.
It then hangs/locks, and needs a three fingered salute to restart.

There are two devices on the chain, and they're working perfectly.

I have just installed RH6.1, and exactly the same thing occurs
with the prebuilt kernels. The SMP kernel finds the 2940 and promptly
hangs, while the uniprocessor (linux-up automatically installed in
lilo, nice touch :-) boot successfully, finding the 2940 and then
finding the two devices under it.

Has anyone come across this sort of behaviour before?

Regards,

Vin
