[ILUG] Help!

[ILUG] Help!

Ok, you obviously have another machine running at the moment, otherwise you
wouldn't still be mailing us . . . Stick the CD in that machine, connect the
notebook, create a Linux boot disk. Boot the laptop from the bootdisk and
try to install over the network.

Have you got a cable for externally connecting the floppy drive ? As a
matter of interest how were you installing in the first place if the CD
isn't bootable, swapping the drives ? Also were you installing in expert
mode per chance ? And were there other virtual terminals available at the
time it hung. I.e. Alt-F3 to check whether or not anything was going on in
the background ?

Hmmm... the CDs don't seem to be bootable..... yeah, I'll
use that mouse fix
next time I get to that stage, its getting to that stage
that is the problem
		though :-(

I wouldn't be hugely familiar with Compaq products but there
are 4 Compaq
notebooks listed in the URL I sent:

		Compaq LTE 5100 <http://www.schou.dk/linux/XF86Config>
		Compaq LTE Lite 4/25

<http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~alexj/linux/LinuxCompaqLite425.html>
		Compaq LTE Elite 4/40cx
<http://www.icubed.com/~hector29/linux.html>
		Compaq LTE5000 <http://www.algonet.se/~rasan/linux.html>

I'm sure one of these would help out no end. As for the
mouse, yeah you
might want to try plugging in an external and hope it
doesn't simply confuse
		the poor beast.

I have the same problem with RH 6.0 on a
compaq
		laptop,
		          where it freezes on
mouse detection, even though it works
perfectly on
		RH 5.2
		          .... hmmmm

Anyhow, on the install it happens
consistantly and
		before
		          the chance to
create a boot (or rescue) disk of any
sort ....

IIRC it also completely locks out the
keyboard
		....

You might want to try using an external
mouse for
		the
		          install (serial
*should* work - and disable the internal
one in
		the
		          BIOS)....
Booting from CD is also a good idea
(even only if
		it's
		          faster and more
		                    reliable !) ...
