...is it just me or is developer.redhat.com not responding. i'm trying to
get some help on setting up redhat linux on a compaq presario 305. 6.1
will detect an ATI|3D Rage LT Pro (using a Mach64 server) but it's not
coming up correctly. the screen is like it's shifted down about 3-4cm
and when the root weave comes up (the initial plain x screen, the xbm
is called root-weave, or used to be, can't find it anymore, anyway...)
on the lower part, and the top part is all white. then gnome changes
the bg colo[u]r to blue and the upper white band turns blue but flickers
slightly. it never displays anything beyond that in the band so it's not
like the screen is wrapped. it just changes based on the bg.
the correct resolution is 800x600. i nuked win98 w/o booting it
and i'd prefer not to install it so i can haraunge compaq about
getting a refund. (i'll take a penny, i just want them to know
at least one customer had no use for it) but i'm not having much
luck detecting the h/w.
any suggestions? web sites to check, folks to email, etc are welcome.
i'm really just used to graphics cards on sun's and mac's where things
just work in a sensible manner.
thanks!
