You will need more RAM while installing. These new-fangled
modern distributions' installers are a bit more RAM-hungry
than the old Slackware days. RH4.x and later definitely
need more than 4MB (speaking from experience).
If you are beginning with Linux, I wouldn't recommend
such a small machine. It _can_ run it, but installation
will be very tricky due to RAM and disk limitations.
It'll also be slow as hell for "real" work (like compiling
kernels - I'd guesstimate about 12 hours).
And don't even think about running X Window on it.
That size of machine is best for low-power applications
like routing, firewalling, small DNS server.
