Hi Folks.
I have a problem with a Sun Ultra 1 machine running Solaris 2.5.1.
It started with an error message saying that permission was
denied for /dev/fb and that Graphics Adapter Advice /dev/fb
was of unknown type.
So I checked up on docs.sun.com and found that a suggested solution
was to reinstall teh appropriate drivers.
So I did that and it is still screwed up...saying that permission
is still denied. So I went to the /dev directory and found that
an ordinary user could not access /dev/fbs. So I changed its permission
and that of its link to /devices/sbus directory.
But everytime I start openwindows from
a new login, it goes and changes the permissions again....
The funny thing is this permission change only happens when I log out...
i.e as soon as I log back onto teh machine and just check the permissions
from a prompt, they have changed!!!! and I get the usual stuff about the
system not being able to read /dev/fb
I can restart X windows as often as I like from a command line without
logging out..... and of course root has no problem in starting openwindows
Any ideas welcomed!!!
Thanks
