Login as root and run sndconfig ... you should be able to do it manually ...
I remember reading a post from someone in a similar boat ... for some
reason, when he ran sndconfig he had to change DMA 0 to DMA 1 before it ran
smoothly ... so you might need to tweek a bit.

There is a package called SANE (a.k.a Scanner Access Now Easy). You can read
about it at http://www.mostang.com/sane/ or download it from
ftp://ftp.mostang.com/pub/sane/. I know there is support in for CanoScan
300, 600 and 2700F, I don't know about FB310.
I haven't used it because I don't own a scanner ... Poor Joe ... So caveat
emptor.
