Hi all,
It seems to me that UNISON are dammed if they do and dammed if the don't.
Well despite the problems that some people have with Unison on the list, I
think it is a great idea altogether. Fair enough I may not be into what
they are doing themselves but fair enough they are using LINUX (According
to Netcraft: www.unison.ie is running Apache/1.3.11 (Unix) PHP/3.0.14 on
Linux ) and the last time I looked, was it not the aim of this Users group
to promote Linux as an alternative operating systems both in Business and
in Industry.
What some people should realise is that this is going to happen when "Big"
business gets involved in the computing world. If we were smart about it we
would be the guys making all the money not some suit in a newspaper who has
known nothing about computers apart from that thing called a calculator his
broker uses.
Fair enough the are using open source software to make money. But in all
honesty did we not expect this?
Simply by looking at their site it has given me a great amount of help in
learning PHP and Mysql. I have sort of figured out the schema of the
database and the php that goes with it. And I have being trying to do a
similar project for ages. (Could still use help with it if anyone has the
time;-)
Should we not focus on the good points of a large operator when they decide
to use LINUX as a major platform within their organisation?
There are a lot of people on the list as it has been pointed out to me
several times. Some of these people are in the media and in areas that
could deploy LINUX or already have. So what impression are we making it we
continue to slate them.
I am not saying that we should lie or anything but I think situations like
this one should never arise.
Thanks
Aj
(Ps sorry for ranting but I'm trying to give up smoking)
