Nope. The drivers ask what memory is on the card, unless you explicitly
tell it what it has. What could have happened is that the windows drivers
are wrong. You could do worse than download more recent ones from Matrox's
website.
I have to say, I didn't know that Mystiques were made in 8MB versions.
Anyway, XF86 should tell you, when you get around to it.
