While there are many people here who are delighted to help you in any
way you can, please bear in mind that this mailing list is not a
support-line. Many of the questions you ask are not linux-specific, but
related to Unix-like programming environments in general. Also, a quick
search of the Web and of Usenet (google, altavista and deja will all
help) is advisable before posting a question to a mailing list or
newsgroup; as it is highly likely that your question has been answered
already. I don't at all begrudge your asking questions here, but I'm
reminded a little of William Morrison's short story "The Sack" - getting
easy answers to your questions will solve your short-term problem, but
you won't learn as much by it as you would if you worked it out for
yourself, using the standard references...
