[ILUG] Surf No Limits problems

[ILUG] Surf No Limits problems

Niall niall at magicgoeshere.com

Surf No Limits regularly disconnects me - I come back to my box and I see a
pop-up from kppp saying "The pppd has exited unexpectedly". Note that this
is not just from inactivity which is of course understandable - it dies in
the middle of file transfers too, which is annoying. I know many of you use
Surf No Limits and keep connections up all weekend downloading ISO images,
so does Esat just hate me or is this a regular thing with others too ?

Having accepted that this is happening, I'm looking at using wvdial with
automatic redial in combination with wget to try to get over this problem.
I've one small question about that - there's a timeout option with wvget
which defaults to 900 seconds, which seems rather long, although the manual
says

Please do not lower the default timeout value with this option
unless you know what you are doing.

It seems to me that a somewhat lower timeout (maybe 30 seconds) would be
better for my purposes. Any comments ?

Kindest regards,

Niall O Broin
