I'd guess not, as there aren't (as far as I know, unless they've
changed things, etc, etc) any delegation systems within whois.
geektools just tell their proxy what the best bet is for each
TLD and/or IP range, and it proxies through to them. A database
has to be maintained..
However..
whois -h whois.geektools.com example.com
works wonderfully.
