[ILUG] OS Masters

I've been offered the possibility of doing a Masters in operating systems
design but it's largely up to me to suggest what to work on but I could
only come up with a few simple ideas. It will be based on Linux, that is
for sure but I was trying to think what could be worked on that would be
consider Masters material. So, what sort of things could be worked on that
would take 2 years and involve a certain amount of research? Note, the
masters would concentrate more on implementation than on researching a
topic. Thanks
