]software for displaying e-books, Windows Media Player for audio and video,

]Can you imagine a palmtop running Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows Media
Player
]and IE? Even slimmed down versions? *cringe*
I have some experience with WinCE from work here - we did a study on both
WinCE and Palm. (Palm came out a winner in our opinion, but the MS people
here (who control what software/hardware we use) chose WinCE, even though it
didn't even meet their own criteria!) The WinCE device comes with a 166MHz
processor (and you can get a lot faster than that), whereas the Palm V has a
meesly 32MHz (correct me if I'm wrong here). The Palm seemed faster when it
came to doing operations, which is no surprise.
Part of the criteria set out by our (I'm still convinced they are being paid
by) MS heads was the ability to run Pocket Word and Excel, and the device
they gave us didn't. The other was the ability to link via mobile phone to
pick up emails/schedule, and the attachment to connect to a phone (either
mobile or landline) couldn't be purchased in either Ireland or the UK. And
they said they had tested this all out and it worked!
Some people.
Anyway, I can't say I'll be buying any of these Pocket PCs (which was going
to be called Windows Anywhere, I thought), but you can be sure that this
little company of ours will be head over heels about them.
It's strange, though, that the business people keep buying Palms and getting
us to install them...
