There is no definite date but I do not think it is unrealistic to expect it
around July/August time, and maybe even before.
 From recent announcements you can see that the development phase has
shifted into the pre-pre-2.4.0.
Many people are already using this release successfully, but if this is
your first time trying to install and use Linux, I am not sure if it
is advisable - especially if you have important data on your portable.

You can always get a pcmia module for 2.2, but I know nothing about it's
usability or features.
