I don't know whether it's apposite, but I'm pretty sure that most of the
newer Sony laptops come with a Yamaha DS-XG sound chip, which is *not*
supported using the built-in kernel sound drivers, but only (thus far)
by OSS - www.opensound.com - a free 7-day trial is available, thereafter
it's roughly US$30/year.
