That data structure gets interpreted further on down, all those lines like
the quote one get dynamically installed as methods in the DBI class I
think. There's also DynLoader stuff going on which means XS and quote
probably get mapped directly to mysql_escape_string() in the mysql library
hence the lack of debugability. Still no idea what's going on though,
