Hi,
I too have an ESS 1868 card, and it seems that you folks are going to a hell
of a lot of trouble to get it running.
I run SuSE 6.2 and use the OSS sound driver thingy. It's SO easy to set up
(even a Windoze user could do it!). There's no messing with the Kernel, just
a quick configuration program to run. It found my card first time and life
has been sound-filled ever since!
