To compare modification times
maybe just ls -l on each one
and then diff the results

ls -l dir1 > dir1.lst
ls -l dir2 > dir2.lst
diff dir1.lst dir2.lst

Am I right in assuming ls show modification time by default
as opposed to ctime and atime (which I assume are created and
accessed respectively)
