It should compile in the same way as RH 6.x, no silly kgcc rubbish. I had
problems compiling on amd processors, whereas the intel variants had no
probs.
e.g.: AMD K6-3D 450 (overclocked to 500) gave me errors, cant remember the
messages, but there was lots of piggies...
After numerous attempts I stuck rh 6.2 back on it (later 7) and never had a
problem, wierd.

You don't have to recompile. MDK 7.1 uses modules
for PCMCIA; all you need to do is ensure that the
correct module for you card is specified to load
at boot.
