It's due to silly DNS admins changing their primary and/or
secondary servers without telling the admin of the parent
domain and/or updating their own NS records.
Basically it means that there is an NS record that's
pointing to a nameserver that no longer serves that
domain.
They can be expected when servers are being changed and
the relevant changes haven't propogated around, but
some domains seem to just have incompetent admins
that don't give a fsck.
In summary, ignore them.
