This is a question that has been asked countless times
but...
..a customer of the company I work for is looking to
implement a commercial service which looks as if it
could be database intensive. Transaction handling is a
must.
I was asked if we should consider Oracle - I said we
should but that it is very pricey and needs alot of
qualified looking after. The other Linux based
alternative I am aware of is PostgreSQL which I
haven't used.
Has anybody on the list experience of implementing a
high volume ecommerce application on Linux and would
you like to share your opinion on relevant databases?
My experience is limited to Oracle on a commercial
Unix and mysql on Linux. The lads here think that SQL
server on NT/2000 might be a worthwhile option, if
only in a commercial sense.
