[ILUG] Why NT can't explore samba?

[ILUG] Why NT can't explore samba?

Hi Dan,

A while back I was supporting some people using Samba on a
Sparc talking to both '95 and NT machines. I remember
having two different problems. They're a little mixed
in my memory (more of this happens everyday...), though.

I seem to remember that (the old) SMB protocol had a
tendency to uppercase everything, passwords and file names.
Win95 expected/handled this. NT didn't.

You can set configurations in Samba to deal with a system
either on a case-sensitive situation (NT) or not (95).

I think this has ramifications for both passwords and filenames.
I seem to remember having to let my Win95 users know that
something they wanted to do/see wasn't going to work
correctly since, I had more NT users.

Hope this isn't just random noise.

good luck,
cas
