I've lately run into some problems with the BBC specifically WRT modules. It
doesn't autoload modules at all, it seems. For instance, when I need to use
the floppy drive from the BBC I have to do an
"insmod /lib/modules/2.2.16/block/floppy.o"
What am I missing here ? I don't tend to build modular kernels much myself,
so when I use them they are usu. as delivered with a distribution and tend
to just work. I've tried to RTFM but Documentation/modules.txt and
Documentation/kmod.txt are not terribly informative. Just for the example I
gave, how should the kernel know that when I try to access /dev/fd0, it
needs to load floppy.o ? Or, for that matter, how should it know what module
to load for any specific block device ? Is that what a line like
alias block-major-2 floppy
does ?
Please take pity on the modularly ignorant ? (I wonder is that better or
worse than being monolithically ignorant ?)
Regards,
Niall
