One watt is still fairly substantial. Take, for example,
two AA Duracells, capacity 2700mAh.
To provide 1 watt at 3 volts requires 333mA. So that gives
you about 8 hours battery life, running the CPU alone.
Next consider the other bits and bobs, such as the screen.
And most rechargable technologies don't have as good an
energy density as alkalines.
