Just because the machine is only 2 months old doesn't mean the hard drive
is.

Don't be coy about naming the dealer either. Others might have similar
problems with the same dealer.

As for bad sectors... Usually they won't replace a drive unless the number
of bad sectors is abopve 5% of the drives capacity.

Reformatting will be of little use. How much memory does the PC have? Maybe
investing there can reduce disk trashing and bad sectors in the future.

Definitely get on to them. If he paid by credit card, get onto them. Outline
the fact you received faulty goods etc...

I had a problem with Maxtor recently, which was sorted out but only by
continously getting onto them
