[ILUG] Procmail update.

[ILUG] Procmail update.

Dave Neary dneary at eircom.net

Hi all,

Thanks for the help, everyone. Unfortunately, I still haven't figured out
what the problem is. I did away with the .forward file, which wasn't doing
anything. I did add flush explicitly to the ~root/.fetchmailrc (keep
wasn't there previously). I didn't touch the sendmail config at all.

I think the problem might be in sendmail. fetchmail is invoked by root as
a daemon, so (if I understand right) fetchmail delivers mail to sendmail,
which transfers it locally according to it's delivery rules to
/var/spool/mail/uname. Fetchmail is called with "smtpaddress localhost"
explicitly, so I guess that's the case.

Sorry, but the procmail documentation is a complete mystery to me. When it
was working out of the box in the past, I had no problems understanding
recipes, but getting it going when it's not working is another matter.

So, in summation, fetchmail's running properly, invoked by root as a
daemon, passing mail happily to sendmail. Procmail is either failing in
it's job after being called by sendmail, or isn't being called, or is
being called, and is lacking an option it needs to do its thing properly.

Just wanted to let ye know how things were. Again, thanks for all the
help.

Cheers,
Dave.
