I did a timedemo on demo1 of the commercial release of Quake 3
yesterday.
Disappointing results with the Riva TNT :(
On my PII450 I maxxed out at 20fps, that was using vertex lighting, and
several options hand tuned from various Quake 3 tuning sites. It didn't
seem to matter how I changed the level of detail on the models. Even
reducing the detail down to 0 (nothing had textures!) didn't improve
performance.
When I switched on lightmapping fps dropped down to 12 or 14.
Performance on Matrox cards should be a lot better since they use
DMA/direct access. That's what's killing the performance on the TNT
probably.
Here's hoping Xfree96 4.0 is released on time! (and they somehow manage
to support the TNT)
Must try Quake3 with a Voodoo 3 tonight..
Donncha.
