This is on RedHat 5.2/m68k. And I have compiled and installed the ppp src
rpm that comes with 6.1. Same result.

Oh, it sort of works. It's just that pppd dies with SIGHUP immediately
after the connection is estabished. No-one so far has been able to
explain that to me.
