passive mode ftp is great. from your local machine you can get two
distant machines to exchange files. for instance, let's say i had
dvd-munitions.tar.gz on suberic.net, and i wanted to copy it to my web
site on indigo.ie - all from a third dial-in box roo. i could do:
roo% ftp indigo.ie
Username: lyda
Password: blah
ftp> cd www/css
ftp> passive
ftp> proxy open suberic.net
Username: kevin
Password: blah
ftp> proxy put dvd-munitions.tar.gz
of course that's the theory. reality is is that it fails for security
reasons. sigh.
