this question is becoming more common. i recently looked into getting
hotjava because i was getting sick of netscape's jvm (as always with
pest(tm) - pretty eager suicidal tendencies). after a few days of
trying i gave up. besides the *huge* downloads, the various tarballs
desires to spew all over my fs, and sparse bordering on nihilistic
documentation, i gave up. even picking a version from blackdown.org is
a guess.
hopefully redhat will use it's cygnus purchase to build a kickass jvm.
obviously sun won;t do anything remotely intelligent with it. a year
ago i still had hope, but i swear there must be an entire dept. at sun
devoted to coming up with moronic ways to promote/develop java. there's
no way a single person could do it.
