i'veyanked the following numbers out of my ..., but i think the general
idea behind them applies.

so let me get this straight. 3com/palm is competing with windows ce.
and in order to really make use of their pda i need to run windows, ie
give their competition $80. actually, if people buy windows, they'll
probably buy office so toss in another $200 or so.

that means: palm gets $250 at a cost of probably $200
their competition, microsoft, gets $280 for what, say $50?

not to mention that part of palm's $200 goes to paying for things like
windows, ms developer studio, etc. so for every $50 palm gets to
reinvest in their company, microsoft gets like $200.

we've got it all wrong. people paint management as monsters, people
with bad hair lives, sheep. WRONG. lemmings. not only are they
lemmings, they actually will spend money to explain why walking of the
cliff is a great idea. brilliant even.
