ok, let's say i download linux-2.2.14.tar.bz2 (i don't have any others)
and i want to drop it into a redhat 6.1 box.
# cd /usr/src
# rm linux
# bzcat /home/kevin/kits/linux-2.2.14.tar.bz2|tar xf -
# cd linux
# make menuconfig
(here i set it for a 686, yank out useless cruft - do i set smp stuff
here or is it still in the Makefile?)
# for s in dep clean modules bzImage modules_install; do
# make -j3 $s
# done > make.out 2> make.err
# cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14
# rm vmlinuz
# ln -s vmlinuz-2.2.14 vmlinuz
and all will be well? any idears on what patches redhat applies? in
particular stuff compaq hardware likes? (yes paul, we're a compaq shop
with gobs of linux running proliants about the place. 6 now, 8
tomorrow, hence my questions.)
