And, to get around that, add this to root's bashrc :
f [ "$TERM" = "xterm" ] ; then
PS1="^[]2; \u on \h in \w ^G${PS1}"
fi
if [ "$TERM" = "xterm-color" ] ; then
PS1="^[]2; \u on \h in \w ^G${PS1}"
fi
In xterms, it'll set the title bar of the window to "root on hostname in
~/directory" - handy.
