Get this: Using system, it hangs. No mouse response, no KBD response.
NumLock/CapsLock don't do anything to the lights. Occasional flashes on the
HDD light. Dead in the water.
BUT, can telnet in (eth) with no probs. Lynx still lets you browse over
ppp0, etc. top says X is running at 98%. Kill X, nothing happens on the
local console, still shows X. In fact, kill all processes in my username,
Killed all I could one by one, synced a few times, umount -r all the
partitions except root, and did a shutdown -r. Got the beep and the message
on the telnet, but only a beep on the server. ps showed init level 6. All
looks well. And stays just there for many more minutes. Did another shutdown
-r, and lo and behold, the server resets, no shutdown, just straight back to
the BIOS screen.
Background: RHL 5.2, Afterstep, running fine until last night, when I
reinstalled LICQ 0.71 to get it working after a failed attempt earlier this
week. This involved a major tidy-up, getting rid of qt2.0.1, qt2.1.0, and
qt2.0.2 before reinstalling 2.0.2, cleaning out the old LICQ and
reinstalling, etc. Got it running, happy, chatting, etc, and then the X
I blame LICQ.
Happened three times in total. It's an issue. Anyone any ideas???
