Dear ILUG,
I am currently trying to configure XFree86 with a card which is not
really supported (Intergraph Intense 3D Pro). I am quite new to all
this. The card is pretty similar to a cirrus something or other: windoze
NT will autodetect it as such, and runs pretty well on it (up to
1024*768, 16000 colours or so), though a bit sluggish. The proper
drivers make it go at higher res and colour (though i would be happy
with 1024*768 for X).
Anyway, the machine seems to think it is a cirrus gld 5430, and i
can configure X to run at 800x600, 8bpp. Anything higher res or colour
is impossible because the card memory is not detected properly (only
detects 512K mem, while card has 16Mb + 16Mb Texture mem).
Does anyone know of a way to get the server (the SVGA, which i have
used ,or other) to detect the memory. I have tried setting the videoRam
option, but it gives a corrupt display (with all memory settings (except
512k perhaps, didn't try that, but no help anyway))
Anyway, sorry I can't be more precise, and any help will be very
gratefully received.
Sincerely,
mick
