If you can get one, grab a 3dfx Velocity : it's a Voodoo 3 2000, with the
memory cut down from 16MB to 8MB, which makes almost no performance
difference whatsoever. They sell them for 50-60 quid because the Windows
drivers disable one of the two texture units in software to create a
perceived 'low-end' card. You can get round this by editing one registry
entry under Windows, or by just letting various utilities auto-detecte the
card under Linux. Redhat 6.1 just calls it an 8MB Voodoo3 and installs it
perfectly.

High-quality card, very cheap, and highly recommended.

EB in Dublin stocked them at £50 a couple of months back, although I think
they later raised that to £60. Not sure if they have any in stock at the
moment : they all seem to have a policy of only carrying a couple of cards
at any one time, which is annoying.

Vin
