That happens me on Solaris at work, when I get attachments from MS email people. 
 I use uudecode to extract the file from the text message.  I know you can get a 
uudecode.exe program for DOS, I'm just not sure where.  Just do a search for 
uudecode.exe and you should find it.

P.S.
uudecode only seems to work if there is a "begin 600" line and and "end" line in 
the text document.
