[ILUG] window managers and motorola voicesurfer56 modem

afternoon all,
2 questions really

1.    i downloaded the lastest versions of wmaker and icewm and xfse some as
.rpm and some as tar.gz's. but i've no idea how to install them...
unzipping them and unrpm'ing them is no problem but the setup is.
any ideas?

2.    i've got a motorola voicesurfer56k modem which is on com3 (ttyS2)
under windows. has anyone managed to get one of these to work under linux.
when i try to set it up the rp3-config(???)  program crashes so i can't see
thats the problem?
again any ideas?
