Check out http://www.horde.org
They have an application called "IMP" written in PHP3. It's absolutely
brilliant. I've it setup & integrated into LDAP & IMAP perfectly. It's a
lovely, simple interface, supports SSL, and a breeze to set it up (if you
follow the instructions - it's tricky at first).
Get the 2.2 pre-releases, as they are more stable now than the 2.0
branch. A few people have described it as a better IMAP mail reader than
Outlook or Netscape.
The 2.3 branch started a while back, and has stuff like GPG support & the
like. If you have an IMAP or POP account that's externally accessable, you
can connect to https://ssl.horde.org/stable2, click on "IMP", and try out
the interface yourself.
