I'm running wvdial as a cron, and attempting to log its output to a file.
Problem: It doesn't have a timestamp on each line.
I tried using a piped connection of wvdial, xargs, echo, and date, and
redirect the output to a file, died a death because xargs waits until EOF on
its input.
Can't pipe the output, because it's sent out on STDERR....
So how can I redirect STDERR to STDIN, or sit on STDERR and wait for
something to pipe to something else?? Or does anyone have a better solution?

Oh, and wvdial doesn't seem to respond to NO ANSWER from my modem... drat.
