It should of course be pointed out the convention of including the date
in the SOA record varies considerably and I don't think is actually
mentioned in any RFC's. (It is however discussed in the DNS + BIND book
which is nearly as authorative :)
Unfortunately a lot of DNS administrators don't follow the guidelines
for the administrator e-mail address, but it is a good place to start if
you need to contact a zone administrator.

BIND 8 has a nifty feature whereby the master server will notify the
slave servers when it updates a zone so that the slave can pull a new
copy straight away rather than waiting for its checking period to
