Actually, this isn't as daft as it sounds... in one workplace we had a
machine that had a poorly seated fan which would periodically cause a
rater loud and annoying noise to emenate from the fan. One solution was to
beat the sides of the machine with fists, another was to lift it about 5cm
off the desk and drop it and the one I discovered was to jab a pencil into
the blades which would re-seat the fan.
