I hit ctrl-C to produce the errno 4
any source of good info on stuff like this?

No xinit. you'd run /etc/init.d/dtlogin to get the graphical login up, or
"/usr/openwin/bin/openwin" ...
You just need to run the program on the server - the equiv of xinit is on
the local windows box.
