I'm having a similar problem with a MS Wheel-Mouse (PS2) that has behaved itself for over a year (and still does under Win9x). When I use a different (2-button) PS2 mouse everything's fine though. Weird one.
But, then again, it wouldn't be the first time a piece of hardware went psyco on me :-)
