DOM stands for Document Object Model. It's an API for parsing XML files.
It creates a tree-like structure of elements and attributes which you can
traverse and muck about with as you like. Most XML parsers include both
DOM and SAX (Simple API for Xml parsing) interfaces. SAX is more of a
serial/event rather than an tree-based API.
