Hi,
Kenn and I were discussing hardware benchmarks over the w/e, as far as
linux goes. I don't think we have anything covering this on linux.ie,
but I may be wrong. One thing I was thinking about was having
a tuning page (with things like "Turn on 32bit DMA support with hdparm -ud)
or whatever), and a benchmarking page. We're going to put together
a standard .config for 2.2.15, and going to ask people to
give us timings for
o first compile
o second compile (for people like Kenn who spend all day compiling)
o hdparm -T (I think, which ever the unbuffered one is)
o maybe some other timings..
and I'll put together a spreadsheet/table with
processor ram benchmark results
(If people want to bench QIII, I'll add that in as well...
This is mainly so Kenn can work out which machine will suit him best
for his cross-compiling, but I'm also interested, and it would be nice to
see.
So, expect a .config over the next day or so, and if anyone has any suggestions
to add..
L.
